The main event of the night will feature Davaoeño Ale Cali going against Jesse Taintano of Guam for the PXC flyweight title. Ale has been impressive in his showing in his past two PXC fights, which includes a decisive win over Philip Parcon in 2010. This will be Ale’s biggest fight so far which will test his mettle in the MMA ring.

Two Giant Crocodiles caught in Palawan

Two giant saltwater crocodiles, caught in a river in Bgy. Rio Tuba in Bataraza, Palawan are transferred on Tuesday night to the custody of the Palawan Crocodile Farm and Conservatory in Puerto Princesa. Farm officials named the 16-foot male crocodile as Valentino and the 11-foot female as Valentina on the occasion of Valentine's Day.

Corona Closed 3 Accounts on day he was impeached

Chief Justice Renato Corona had three peso accounts closed in Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) as of December 12, 2011, the day he was impeached by the House of Representatives.

Based on the testimony of PSBank Katipunan branch manager Annabelle Tiongson, account 089121019593 was closed on December 12, 2011. It was opened on December 22, 2009 with an amount of P8,500,000. It became P12,580,316,56 as of end-2010.

The other account that was closed on December 12, 2011 was 089121021681.

It was opened on September 1, 2010 with an amount of P7,090,099.45. As of end-2010, the amount was at P7,148,238.83.

Both are peso time deposits.

The other account, which was not a subject of a subpoena was also closed on the same date. It had an initial deposit of P17 million on June 29, 2011. It is also a time-deposit.

The other accounts are:

089121017358 – opened on January 26, 2009 with P2,100,000
- closed on April 16, 2009;

089121020122 – opened on March 4, 2010 with P3,700,000.
- closed on April 23, 2010;

089121011957 – opened on May 16, 2007 with P2,000,000; end-2010 with P5,018,255.56;
- closed on October 2, 2008.

All the three accounts are peso time deposits.

Tiongson also brought a certification from the PSBank that Corona has no other accounts, such as mutual funds and other types of deposits.

It was on December 12, 2011 when 188 congressmen signed the impeachment complaint accusing Corona of betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and culpable violation of the Constitution.

Senator-judge Jinggoy Estrada noted: "It is quite suspicious that these 3 accounts were all closed on the day that the Chief Justice was impeached."

Senator-judge Francis Pangilinan later asked PSBank President Pascual Garcia the circumstances surrounding the termination. “Is there a way where we can find out where it went?”

Garcia said there is, but he is not prepared with an answer because it was not included in the subpoena of the court.

Private prosecutor Demetrio Custodio asked if PSBank officers could bring to court documents pertaining to the closing of the 3 accounts.

Senator-judge Tito Sotto, however, asked if the 3 accounts had any relevance to the allegation of the prosecution on the non-disclosure in Corona’s SALNs.

Custodio said: “It has no direct relevance, but just to show there’s an attempt to conceal certain amounts.”

Not Corona's money - defense

Defense lawyers explained on Thursday that Chief Justice Renato Corona had to close 3 peso accounts in Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) on the day he was impeached since the money was not his but his wife's company, Basa Guidote Enterprises Inc (BGEI).

They also issued a statement denying that Mrs. Corona had texted journalists explaining why the peso accounts were closed on December 12, 2011, the day her husband was impeached by the House of Representatives.

"It has come to my attention that a certain Tina Corona has texted a media personality. I have not done that and I have not interacted with any media since the impeachment case has been referred to the Senate for trial. I hope media outfits are responsible enough to check and verify your sources before issuing any report. Please be fair," she said.

In the text message which she disowned, it said the money in the peso accounts came "from City of Manila expropriation."

"He deposited it for me for convenience. I was often in Baguio. It's not his funds that's why it's not in his SALN," the text message said.

Corona's defense team previously pointed out that BGEI earned P34 million after one of its properties was expropriated by the City of Manila in 2001.

Hearsay evidence, says Cuevas

Lead defense lawyer Serafin Cuevas also said those amounts in the 3 accounts can only be declared on April 30, 2012. “So it’s not included in the SALN.”

Cuevas also asked Tiongson on cross-examination to test her credibility.

“On the rules on entries made on regular course of business, the entries must be made by persons making the entry?” he asked, to which she answered: “Yes.”

Cuevas tried to show that what Tiongson knows are hearsay since she did not personally attend to the opening or closing of the accounts.

“So you can’t vouch for the validity and correctness then?” Cuevas asked. She answered: “No, I wasn’t there.”

Senator-judge Miriam Defensor Santiago later said it is now up to the prosecution to prove that the entries were indeed made during those dates in question.

Pauleen Luna Collapsed in Eat Bulaga Juan For All, All For Juan

The Eat Bulaga host Pauleen Luna collapsed on national TV while the show’s segment “Juan 4 All, All 4 Juan” was airing live from Barangay Centro, San Juan, Davao City. Due to this incident, pregnancy rumors have started to circulate in social media sites. Pauleen Luna is rumored to be dating Vic Sotto although these two neither denied nor confirmed of the relationship.

In the middle of the said segment, which was held at the time in San Juan, Davao City, Luna momentarily lost consciousness. Because of this, the segment was temporarily halted, as ordered by Vic Sotto, one of the main hosts of EB, in order for the staffs to tend to Luna’s care. Sotto happened to be the rumored boyfriend of Luna.

When the commotion was done, Sotto made Allan K (another EB host) explain what exactly happened to Luna. He said that Luna was at his house since 2 am before they headed for Davao. So, overfatigue could be a possible reason for the collapse.

PRC to launch Online Application System (OAS)

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) today announced the successful pilot testing of its Online Application System (OAS) at the University of Baguio and the University of Cordilleras on February 1 and 3, 2012, respectively, to examinees for the March 2012 Criminologists Licensure Examination. The OAS enables applicants to apply online anytime, anywhere at their convenience. Applicants will just have to go on line and not in line.

Applicants at the said universities who participated in the pilot testing overwhelmingly favored the adoption of OAS, saying it is user-friendly, faster and more convenient. Commissioner Jennifer Jardin-Manalili, who led the pilot-testing, assured nursing students attending the Student Nursing Congress in Baguio City that the OAS will also benefit the tens of thousands of applicants from Baguio and areas nearby for the Nursing Licensure Examinations in June 2012.

PRC Chairperson Teresita R. Manzala said that the OAS pilot testing paves the way for the rolling out of the Licensure Examination and Registration Information System (LERIS), which the PRC is implementing as part of its eServices and decentralization thrusts for 2012. She said that the LERIS and eServices will improve PRC services delivery nationwide. Subject to further refinements, the OAS will soon be adopted in all PRC offices to serve the growing number of applicants, especially for the nursing, teachers and criminologists licensure examinations.

Zamboanga del Norte Flash Flood

More than 3200 families or 13,000 individuals were evacuated as flash flood swaps most part of Zamboanga del Norte as the water level of the Dapitan City river rose due to continuous heavy rains. Towns and cities affected are Barcelona, Oyan, Opao, Ba-ao, Burgos, Sulangon, Polo, Tamion, Diwa-an, Sinonoc, Owaon and Ilayan.

According to the latest National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Bulletin, there was an estimated damage cost of P412,000.oo. No casualty nor missing persons were reported.

The heavy downpour was brought about by the Low Pressure Area (LPA), which is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 650 km East of Mindanao (7.8°N, 133.0°E). Tail-end of a cold front affecting Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao and is expected to make landfall Saturday evening says PAGASA.

Renato Corona's Dollar Account

A spokeswoman of Chief Justice Renato Corona's defense team on Friday said Malacañang should not meddle with Corona's dollar accounts because it is not a crime to own one.

Atty. Karen Jimeno said President Aquino cannot dictate on Corona whether or not he can have a dollar account. This, after the President challenged Corona on Friday to present information on his dollar accounts if he has nothing to hide.

Jimeno said the money in Corona's dollar accounts were part of his savings before he became Chief Justice. Then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo appointed Corona as an associate justice of the Supreme Court in April 2002. She named him chief justice in May 2010.

Jimeno said the defense, when they present their witnesses, will have a chance to explain the accounts of Corona.

On Thursday, the SC voted 8-5 to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) stopping Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) from releasing records of Corona's alleged foreign currency deposits.

Under the Foreign Currency Deposit Act, a disclosure of foreign currency bank accounts can only be made upon written permission from the depositor.

The senator-judges have scheduled a caucus on February 13, Monday at 11 a.m. to discuss the SC order.

Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda, meanwhile, warned the Senate against deferring to the SC order stopping the opening of Corona's dollar deposits.

"It won't stop. Ngayon foreign currency deposits. Nagpaparinig na ang defense, sabi nila even in the peso accounts, they are going to say 'It's a fishing expedition.' What will stop them now from going to the SC and say 'Your honors, the peso accounts, while it has been revealed, was a product of the fruit of the poisonous tree.' That's another question of law. The SC will say, 'Teka, we have jurisdiction. We are going to rule on that.'

"They will emasculate every order of the Senate. That is why it is untenable for the Senate to consider to even defer to the Supreme Court even in interlocutory orders because the basis is grave abuse of discretion. E kung sa final judgment sabihin nila may grave abuse of discretion, di paano na?"

Luv U is an upcoming sitcom on ABS-CBN. It stars Marco Gumabao, Kiray Celis, Igiboy Flores, Angeli Gonzales, CJ Navato, and Miles Ocampo. Members of its cast include Rhap Salazar, Alfred Labatos, Bangs Garcia, Smokey Manaloto, Bentong, Cai Cortez, Hyubs Azarcon, and Joy Viado.

Manny Pacquiao will defend his WBO welterweight title against unbeaten American puncher Tim Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao and Bradley last fought in November last year at the MGM Grand where the Filipino beat Juan Manuel Marquez and Bradley stopped Joel Casamayor in the undercard.

Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO) and Bradley (28-0, 12 KO) will meet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, live on HBO pay-per-view.

Negros Earthquake Latest Update and Photos

The death toll in Negros Oriental from Monday’s magnitude-6.9 earthquake continued to rise, with the military reporting 48 fatalities Tuesday noon and at least 92 more missing.

Colonel Francisco Patrimonio, commander of the Army's 302nd Brigade, said 60 houses with 42 persons were reportedly buried in Barangay Solongon, La Libertad town, and another 29 houses with 30 persons in Barangay Planas, Guihulngan City.

Army soldiers used picks, shovels and chainsaws in a race against time to rescue at least 71 people buried in landslides that covered 80 houses in two barangays (villages) in Guihulngan City and the adjacent La Libertad town, both in Negros Oriental.

President Benigno Aquino III will visit Dumaguete City, one of the areas affected by the temblor, on Wednesday, his 52nd birthday, Malacañang announced.

“(The President) will inspect damaged areas and meet with our countrymen affected by the calamity, as well as with the government workers who are providing much needed relief operations on the ground,” his spokesperson, Edwin Lacierda, said.

The number of victims of Monday’s 6.9-magnitude earthquake could still go up as some 90 houses were buried in Barangay Solinggon in La Libertad and in Sitio (sub-village) Moog, Barangay Planas in Guihulngan City. Eighty others were injured.

At least 45 people were confirmed dead—28 in Guihulngan, 10 in La Libertad, three in Jimalalud town, two in Tayasan town and two in Bindoy town, officials said.

In Moog, 29 houses were buried 6 meters (20 feet) deep when a portion of the mountain fell over the mountainside neighborhood during the temblor.

A certain Ahcee Flores from Caloocan City is now the center of hatred and serious attacks in several social networking sites after he posted a message on Facebook wishing the victims of earthquake in the Visayas area to die of tsunami following a 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit the area on Monday, February 6, 2012.

A certain Ahcee Flores commented on a Story on Yahoo! Philippines, “let us all pray….na matuloy ang tsunami para maraming bisaya ang mamatay, para mabawasan ang mga baduy sa pilipinas.”

A screen capture of the post has gone viral over social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Flores now has several hate pages on Facebook, and haters have flooded @ahcee_flores with mentions on Twitter, which she has stopped replying to since last night. @ahcee flores has not denied that she posted the viral comment, and her posts are still currently open to the public.

Priscilla Meirelles gives birth to a baby girl

February 6, Monday, at 12:29 AM, Brazilian beauty queen Priscilla Meirelles gives birth to a healthy baby girl with his husband John Estrada.

Last Saturday, February 4, at the finale episode of the now-defunct Happy Yipee Yehey, Estrada shared that his wife, Meirelles, was brought to the hospital because they thought that she will deliver the child then. But she did not give birth until Monday, 12:29 AM.

Estrada himself confirmed the delivery of their baby girl through a text message. They named the baby girl Samantha Anechkam who wieghed 6.13 lbs. Estrada proudly said that the baby is very pretty and looked exactly like her beauty queen mother.

In the same text message, Estrada said that his wife is doing fine and is very happy for the blessing they’ve received.

Zambales Special Election Result

A five-way fight on the special election for congressman of the second district of Zambales was held last February 2, 2012.

The candidates were Jun Omar Cabanayan Ebdane of the Partido ng Manggagawa at Magsasaka and son of Zambales Gov. Hermogenes Ebdane; Rica Victoria Villanueva Diaz-Aram-bulo of the Nationalista Party; former Zambales vice governor Cheryl Poynter Deloso-Montalla of the Liberal Party; and Wilfredo Paul Dantes Pangan and Alfred Sebarrotin, both independent bets.

The special election was called to find a replacement for the late congressman Antonio Diaz who died last August 2010.

It will be done manually and not automated since there is no need to consolidate the votes in the national level. According to Comelec records, there are a total of 200,813 voters in 2,108 established and clustered precincts in the 10 cities and municipalities comprising Zambales’ second district. Voting is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The son of Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. won Saturday’s special congressional elections for the province’s second district.

Jun Omar Ebdane,the former provincial administrator and candidate of the Partido ng Manggagawa at Magsasaka, was proclaimed winner by the board of canvassers at around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. He garnered 62,867 votes. The runnerup was former vice governor Cherly Deloso-Montallo of the Liberal Party, who got 56,945 votes.

Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake Hits Samar

A magnitude 6.0 quake struck some parts of Eastern Visayas on February 4, Saturday. In a report by the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake was felt at around 9:09 p.m with depth of 60.2 km with the epicenter around 100 kilometres north of the city of Guiuan, Samar.

No major damages were reported yet however the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) continues to monitor its aftermath.

Just recently, a 5.9 magnitude also jolts Eastern Samar with no reported casualties.

Senate approves Anti-Cybercrime Bill of the Philippines (SB 2796)

Anti-CyberCime bill or the Senate Bill (SB) 2796 was approved during its third and final reading last Monday. This bill seeks to establish safeguards in using of the Internet and penalizes cybersex, child pornography on the web, spamming, and other Cybercrimes.

The following offenses are included under SB 2796:

Offenses against the confidentiality, integrity and availability of computer data and systems (illegal access, illegal interception, data interference, system interference, cyber-squatting, misuse of devices)
Computer-related offenses (computer-related forgery, computer-related fraud)
Content-related offenses (cybers*x, child pornography, unsolicited commercial communications, libel)

Under Senate Bill 2796, the following are the penalties of the said offenses:

Cybers*x defined as “the willful engagement, maintenance, control, or operation, directly or indirectly, of any lascivious exhibition of s*xual organs or sexual activity, with the aid of a computer system” will be imprisoned for 6 to 12 years or made to pay a fine of P200,000 to P1 million.
Spamming or unsolicited commercial communications defined as the “transmission of commercial electronic communication with the use of a computer system which seek to advertise, sell, or offer for sale products” is punishable with imprisonment of 1 to 6 months or a fine of P50,000 to P250,000.
Child pornography carries the penalties specified under Republic Act 9775 or the Child Pornography Act of 2009.

The 2012 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner's Cup is the second conference of the 2011–12 PBA season. The tournament is scheduled to begin on February 10. The tournament is an import-laden format, which requires an import or a pure-foreign player for each team and with no height limit.

The following format will be observed for the duration of the conference:

Single-round robin eliminations; 9 games per team; Teams are then seeded by basis on win-loss records. Ties are broken among points differences of the tied teams.
The top two teams after the elimination round will automatically advance to the semifinals.
The next four teams will play in a best of three quarterfinals series for the two last berths in the semifinals. Matchups are:
QF1: #3 team vs. #6 team
QF2: #4 team vs. #5 team
The winners of the quarterfinals will challenge the top two teams in a best-of-five semifinals series. Matchups are:

The fight of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs. Marco Antonio Rubio is scheduled on the exact day of Saturday February 4 2012 @ Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will put his WBC middleweight title on the line on February 4 against Marco Antonio Rubio in San Antonio, part of an HBO double-header that will also include Nonito Donaire facing Wilfredo Vazquez Jr for the vacant WBO super bantamweight belt.

Chavez (44-0-1, 31 KO) is “supposed” to be facing Sergio Martinez next or facing a stripping of his title belt, but as expected the WBC is appearing to play favorites and not sticking by their tough talk of “Sergio or stripped” from before.

The whole thing is a near-perfect example of boxing nonsense as Rubio (53-5-1, 46 KO) supposedly won a WBC eliminator in April 2011 with his upset of then-unbeaten David Lemieux, but then the WBC said that was not an eliminator fight, but Rubio became the No. 1-ranked challenger anyway.

Sam Milby is leaving the Philippines to pursue his ultimate dream – to be a Hollywood star. He sends his farewell to his supporters and ASAP 2012 family.

In an article at Push.com.ph on November 2011, Sam said he will stay there for three months to pursue a Hollywood career. He has not inked a deal with any Hollywood TV network or film producers however, the actor-singer is pretty optimistic about his plans and is set to do couple of Hollywood projects.

He said that this will be the longest time he will be away from the Philippines, since he started (5 years ago). He promised his fans he will be back after a couple of months, probably later this year.

Merlito “Tiger” Sabillo engaged Sofyan “Cobra” Effendi close quarter combat for eight rounds. Sabillo had the edge in the volume department all throughout. But Effendi managed to buckle Sabillo's legs in the 4th but Effendi could not finish him. Sabillo bouned back in the 5th and hurt Effendi.

The scores read 78-74 for all three judges for Sabillo.

Joseph Von Minoza gave Yoo Shin Kim of Korea a one-sided beating for eight rounds. Minoza threw everything he had but Kim hung tough. The scores of the three judges were 79-73 for Minoza.

The five main bouts gave the Philippines the world trophy in an impressive performance.

PBA Dream Game 2012: Blue vs Green

The Philippine Basketball Association presents a Dream Game for followers of the Ateneo-La Salle collegiate rivalry: the "PBA Dream Game 2012: Blue vs. Green " featuring former Blue Eagles and Green Archers who now play in Asia's oldest professional basketball league. The exhibition game will be held on 5 February 2012 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Only in a dream match featuring long-time college rivals Ateneo and La Salle can one witness a collection of basketball superstars gathered in a single major event.

Norman Black, architect of Ateneo’s dominant four-year reign (2008-2011) in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament, will call the shots for the Katipunan-based squad, while Franz Pumaren, who authored a similar four-peat rule by the Archers from 1998-2001, will be the one at the helm of La Salle’s bench.
Villanueva, Al-Hussaini, Baclao and Aguilar comprise the Ateneo roster that also includes L.A Tenorio, JC Intal, Larry Fonacier, Doug Kramer, Rich Alvarez, Wesley Gonzales, Magnum Membrere, and Eric Salamat.

The trio of Cortez, Casio,and Cardona banner the La Salle side to be reinforced by RenRen Ritualo, Don Allado, Joseph Yeo, Rico Maierhoffer, Willie Wilson, TY Tang, Ryan Arana, Carlo Sharma, Jerwin Gaco, and Brian Ilad.

All 25 players are currently seeing action in the PBA.

This marks the first Ateneo-La Salle exhibition game in four years, since the two proud schools fought to a 90-90 standoff in a 2008 charity match. Being an exhibition encounter, there was no extra period played.

Considered one of the colorful and greatest rivalries in Philippine sports, the basketball competition between La Salle-Ateneo dates back to the early years of the NCAA, where both schools were founding members, and carried on to the UAAP until these days.
Over the last decade, the Eagles and Archers met for the UAAP men’s basketball title three times, with Ateneo winning in 2002 and 2008 and the Archers prevailing in 2001.

Iggy Arroyo dies at the age of 60

The younger brother (Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo Jr.) of the former First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo and congressman repsenting the 5th district of Negros Occidental has died in London confirmed by lawyer Romulo Macalintal.

Iggy Arroyo was 60 years old. He went to London last year to seek treatment for a liver ailment. He was listedas one of the lawmaker with most number of absences in the House of Representatives for 2011.

According to some Philippines news website last December that he had to stay longer in London because of his ongoing treatment.

He also urged President Benigno Aquino III to show compassion to his sister-in-law, former President Gloria Arroyo.

The younger Arroyo figured in the news in 2003 after he claimed ownership of the multimillion-peso “Jose Pidal account, allegedly owned by his brother.

He again allegedly covered up for his brother after he claimed that he leased 5 helicopters from Lionair Inc. since 2004. Two of the choppers were allegedly sold to the Philippine National Police for $700,000 in 2009.

Arroyo’s claim ran contrary to claims made by Lionair President Archibald Po that Mike Arroyo purchased and used the choppers before they were sold to the PNP.

According to entertainment news site, Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), Sarah G Live, a musical show with popstar princess Sarah Geronimo, will replace Gandang Gabi Vice of Vice Ganda on its time slot on Sunday nights. The news site added that the singer-actress will take a rest from Sunday variety show, ASAP to concentrate on the show.

However, no mention if Gandang Gabi Vice will stop airing or will assume a different time slot. No official statement has been released by the network, however, regarding this matter.

Renato Corona SALN

Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona's net worth jumped from P14.9 million in 2002 to P22.9 million in 2010, according to documents submitted to the impeachment court on Wednesday.

Based on Corona's 2010 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN) turned over by Supreme Court Clerk of Court Enriqueta Vidal, Corona bought a condominium in Makati in 2003 worth P1.2 million, a condominium in Taguig in 2004 worth P2.3 million, and another condominium in Taguig in 2010 worth P6.8 million.

These prime properties were purchased purportedly on installment after Corona was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2002 by then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. His net worth has gone up by P8 million since his appointment to the high court.

Corona's net worth has been rising since 2004, based on his SALNs.

Corona's net worth was P7.3 million in 2004. It went up to P8.3 million in 2005, P9.5 million in 2006, P11 million in 2007, P12.5 million in 2008, P14.5 million in 2009, and P22.9 million in 2010.

The condominium in Makati is believed to be a unit in The Columns, Ayala Avenue, Makati City.

The 2 condominiums in Taguig City are believed to be a unit at Bonifacio Ridge and a unit in Bellagio Tower.

Corona has admitted to owning a 300-square meter apartment in The Fort, Taguig, and that he has declared this in his SALN "when they acquired it," according to his reply to the impeachment complaint.

He has also admitted to owning 4 other properties from a Land Registration Authority (LRA) list of 45 properties released by House prosecutors last week.

Undeclared properties

After getting copies of Corona's SALN, House chief prosecutor Rep. Niel Tupas said Corona did not declare 6 supposedly big-ticket properties in his SALN.

This was Tupas’ initial assessment of the SALNs after these were obtained by the Senate impeachment court.

He said the documents show that while some properties were declared, others were misdeclared with a lower value.

He also said he did not see the Bellagio Tower property specifically stated in the SALN.

Tupas said he would like to leave it to the senator-judges to appreciate the SALNs.

House prosecutors also said the 5 properties Corona has admitted to owning in his public statements are worth over P18 million already, indicating that the properties were under-declared.

They also said the SALNs show that Corona has "undeclared assets," and that he could not have afforded the properties under his name.

Rep. Sonny Angara, one of the spokesmen for the prosecution, said Article 2 of the impeachment complaint is all about the "hidden wealth" of Corona.

Prosecution panel spokesman Miro Quimbo said the SALNs show an intent to "deceive on the part of the chief justice."

'Declared in SALN'

Meanwhile, SC spokesman Midas Marquez said Corona already said in previous interviews that he has only 5 real estate properties, which he declared in his SALN.

He said the fact that Vidal brought Corona's SALNs to the impeachment trial shows she had every intention of complying with the subpoena of the Senate impeachment court.

He said Vidal did not have time to consult with the SC en banc before going to the Senate on Wednesday.

Marquez said the guidelines of the 1989 SC resolution show that the SALNs of the justices can be released as long as it is not used for fishing expeditions or harassment purposes.

"We would like to think subpoenas issued by court are not for fishing expeditions or for harassment. These are valid court processes that we have to comply with," he said.

Former Justice Undersecretary Ramon Esguerra, one of Corona's defense lawyers, said the disclosure actually proves their point that Corona was filing his SALNs with the Supreme Court Clerk of Court, and did not violate the law.

"On the part of the appointee, there is no duty to disclose. The Clerk of Court also did not have any duty to disclose," he said.

He noted that Vidal said during her testimony that she had been receiving requests for the SALNs of the Supreme Court justices.

He said Vidal brought the requests to the SC en banc for proper guidance because she is bound by the guidelines of the Court.

The defense lawyer said Corona is actually the first Supreme Court magistrate to disclose his SALN in public even before the SC en banc could rule on various requests for the justices' SALNs.

He said Associate Justices Antonio Carpio and Maria Lourdes Sereno merely issued summaries of their assets, liabilities and net worth, and not their SALNs, to the media.

Prosecution spokesman Angara said it was the first time in 22 years that a Supreme Court justice's SALN was disclosed to the public. source: ABS-CBN News

Magnitude 5.9 Earthquake Jolts Samar and Leyte on January 17

A strong quake shook some parts of Leyte and Samar at around 8:55 PM on January 17, 2012. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake registered magnitude 5.9 at a depth of only 25 km.

Intensity V was felt in Salcedo, Borongan and Guiuan, Eastern Samar; Intensity IV was recorded in Tacloban, Palo and Tolosa, Leyte; Catbalogan, Samar; Dolores and San Policarpo, Eastern Samar, and some parts experiencing minor shakes.

No reported damage has been posted yet but the chance on landslides in the current weather conditions is “very high”.

Facebook Launched the Listen With Button

The social network announced today the introduction of a "Listen With" button that lets users of music services such as Rdio and Spotify share the exact same song, at the same point in the song, via the music service. However, both parties will have to be registered users of the service.

A chat sidebar spotlights current listening opportunities with a music note. To listen, users hover their cursor over the user's name and then click the "Listen With" button. The chat sidebar also allows listeners to discuss the music being played.

You can listen to the same song, at the exact same time—so when your favorite vocal part comes in you can experience it together, just like when you're jamming out at a performance or dance club.

How It Works

Look for the music note in the chat sidebar to see which of your friends are listening to music. To listen with a friend, hover over their name, and click the Listen With button. The music will play through the service your friend is using.

When a new song plays, you'll come along for the ride, discovering new music while your friend DJs for you.

Bamboo Joins ASAP 2012

Philippine rock icon Bamboo is now part of ABS-CBN’s top-rating musical variety show, “ASAP 2012.”

Bamboo, who started the new year with a new album, is positive about his latest career move. “ASAP is all about putting myself out of my comfort zone and growing as a person and as an artist. I’m challenged about the idea and I’m ready to learn a little more about myself from this experience,” he said.
